A tugboat leading a yacht parade? Not everyday that’s for sure. The Pacific Maritime Group inland towing vessel Harbor Captain recently acted as the Commodore’s Flagship and led Southwestern Yacht Club’s 96th Opening Day Parade in San Diego, California. Commodore Steve Frailey is also a USCG licensed MOT and one of the two partners in Pacific Maritime Group. Steve is very active in the maritime community both professionally and recreationally. The tug Harbor Captain was a natural way to bring both those worlds together in a fun celebration of life and work on the water. Participants in the parade followed the lead tug all around Shelter Island Yacht Basin, passing in review along Silvergate Yacht Club, San Diego Yacht Club, Kellogg Beach, La Playa Trail and the marinas in the basin. Somehow, a working tugboat added a fun aspect to the formal affairs of the day, which drew one of the largest number of participants on recent memory! Steve and Pacific Maritime Group enjoy sharing a passion for all things maritime and boating, and sometimes the blurring the line between work and play!
