The 130’, 700 ton ex floating restaurant/party venue “Neptune’s Palace” was abandoned by the owner and sunk in South San Diego Bay in shallow water where it had sat for several years. Pacific Maritime Group entered into a firm fixed price with the Port of San Diego to float and dispose of the wreck. One of the many challenges was to avoid having to cut it up in place which would have resulted in contaminants of many kind released in the water. PMG’s engineering team devised a creative and effective way to attach sufficient flotation to float the structure at a high tide. It was then towed to a shipyard, hauled out by travel lift, cut up and much of the material recycled. All work was successfully completed with zero incidents.
