Recently Pacific Maritime Group helped clean up a diesel fuel spill at Laguna Beach, Orange County. This part of the California coast is rugged, known for its surf and is indescribably beautiful. Unfortunately, an accidental spill of diesel fuel threatened to spoil one part of the 1000 Steps area.
Ancon Services of Carson, California was hired to save the beach. They were the prime contractor and provided their 40 years of experience with a top notch crew trained in Emergency Response to environmental disasters.
The beach Ancon Services mobilized onto was small and inaccessible from the street. All equipment and materials had to be delivered by sea. Luckily, PMG’s landing craft SEA SCOUT is made for such a thing. The SEA SCOUT delivered an excavator plus skidsteers, all-terrain vehicle, containment boom, bags and absorbents. The Ancon crews went to work. They captured the contaminated beach sand and bagged it.
The SEA SCOUt returned again to deliver bags of clean sand. Approximately 900 tons of clean sand were brought in by barge and landing craft.
The Ancon crews placed the clean sand on the beach and graded it flat.
When remediation was completed the contaminated sand plus barrels of clean up materials, tools and all equipment were somehow loaded back aboard the SEA SCOUT.
When done, the SEA SCOUT backed off the beach and took all the contaminated sand plus equipment to the Pacific Tugboats yard in Long Beach. What the boat left behind was a lovely sand beach, ready for sun worshippers, surfers and swimmers.
